Hits Radio Launches in Manchester
Today sees the launch of Hits Radio, the first major commercial digital radio station to broadcast out of Manchester. The new station kicked off this morning with the breakfast show hosted by Gemma Atkinson, Gethin Jones and ‘Comedy Dave Vitty’.
Hits Radio is the reincarnation of Key 103, the heritage FM station for Manchester. It will incorporate Bauer’s other much-loved local heritage brands, including Nottingham’s Gem, Newcastle’s Metro and Liverpool’s Radio City.
The station will target 25-44 year olds, and has already secured its first national sponsors We Buy any Car and Moda Furnishings.
As a local who’s grown up listening to Key 103, there is a tinge of sadness in its demise but it’s great to see a national launch in Manchester.
I’ll be following the station’s progress keenly and will be interested to see how they strike a balance between being a national station and still providing relevant and localised news to their loyal heritage audiences too.
