Ad of the Week – Nick Jablonka

This week’s AOTW has to go to 18 year old Nick Jablonka, who – before this week – you probably hadn’t heard of.
 
He made a minute-and-a-half long video for his A-Level Media coursework, a John Lewis style Christmas advert. In June he uploaded it to YouTube – but this week it went viral, with eager John Lewis fans mistaking it for the official Christmas ad. It tells a simple story – a lonely snow man trapped in a snow globe imagining a better life with a snow woman. He eventually finds comfort in his own ability to imagine the relationship, and is finally content. The music compliments the impressive visuals, but the critic in me has to say that the resolution of the story isn’t quite as heartwarming as ‘The Long Wait’. But – for a piece of A-Level coursework – it’s undeniably impressive. Since the media attention, Jablonka has been offered a PR job – and John Lewis have invited him behind the scenes of the making of their official christmas ad.
